Wall Plaque representing a papaya leaf. The Papaya tree (Carica papaya L.) is an evergreen fruit tree of the humid tropics and sub-humid, family Caricaceae, grown for its fruit, the Papaya. It is native to southern Mexico. It is a dioecious plant. The Papaya tree can be male or female, but also a hermaphrodite. Females and hermaphrodites (to a lesser extent for the latter) will bear fruit, however they require pollination to bear fruit.
